I have been pretty silent for the past couple of days. There has neither been activity from me at my blogs nor at my friends’ blogs either. You might think I was in hibernating. If so there was a good reason for it. The truth of the matter is that I was online the whole time. I was not dormant.

I know it would come as a shock to everyone. Lainy’s Musings WAS HIJACKED. I had no access to the Blogger Admin Dashboard for my most precious blog “Lainy’s Musings”. It was not until today that I was able to recover Lainy’s Musings.

The trauma in losing the blog that is about to celebrate its first birthday on April 26 and where Bloggers’ Celebration is taking place was nightmar-ish!

I felt totally devastated!

The last time I had access to Lainy’s Musings Admin Dashboard was on Saturday, April 11. That was when I announced a contestant’s disqualification. I discovered something was amiss on Monday when I couldn’t log in using the same account details that I have always been using.

I am not pointing a finger at anyone. This untoward event had caused me distress and anxiety. Everything clouded on me and I did not feel like blogging anymore! It dawned on me that having the writing competition was a huge mistake. But my closest friends who were with me in this tough journey never failed in giving the support and encouragement that I needed most.

The ordeal that I and my one very good friend went through to retrieve my blog was unthinkable. He even had to stay up all night until the wee hours of the morning.

He knew all that had happened to my blog. Most of what he explained is beyond my comprehension as I am not blog-technically inclined. There were a lot of new things that I did learn about how it was possible for the hacker to hijack my blog.

I know more or less now how vulnerable Blogger (blogspot.com) is and how easily it may be hacked and hijacked. To explain the intricacies of how Lainy’s Musings was hijacked would need my friend to explain it to you because I do not think I am capable in rendering an intelligible explanation.

At the behest of my worthy blog-wise advisors, I have been persuaded to migrate to WordPress and operate this new Lainy’s Musings WP Blog from an external webhost. This is far more superior in providing the Blog protection as well as give me more direct control over the Blog.

Contestant Disqualification

It is with a heavy heart and regret that I have to disqualify one of the 26 Contestants for the Lainy’s Hottest Blogoversary Writing Competition: A Bloggers Celebration!

Since the Poll began, this Contestant has beseiged me with unstoppable and unfounded complaints about her Poll.

The polls that she received were incorrect, highly dubious for entries that were pointing to non-existent identifications, repeated entries, something that Poll Daddy (the third Party poll service) would prevent further submission from the same Pollster.

I have been running from pillar to post with her complaints and it has reached a point of ridicule. Instead of being cooperative, she has now published two scathing posts at her Blog (HERE and HERE) about her complaints and the response she received.

She has failed to let it be known in this POST that she did get FULL assistance and that she was even sent a Screen Capture to prove that her Poll was working perfectly fine.

She also failed to acknowledge publicly that she was told that her Pollsters would be given another chance to make their Polls good. We had to request for her Poll to be reset so that her Pollsters could make their second attempt after 6 pm on April 8th.

Regrettably, their second Poll was as disastrous as their first.

And yet she keeps bad mouthing about the Poll when 25 other Contestants have not uttered a single complaint to me about theirs malfunctioning or their Pollsters encountering problems with the Poll format.

Again, this is not something that I have jumped to making a hasty decision to disqualify the Contestant.

I, the credible judges and the IT professionals who are helping me make this endeavor a success have been working tirelessly to make sure that FAIR PLAY is taking place. We can not just sit here and simply allow the contestant to ruin our efforts.

Therefore, Contestant Number 13, Gagay of walkingnewspaper, you are disqualified with immediate effect.

Let the Poll Begin!

I am pleased to announce that the Lainy’s Hottest Blogoversary Writing Competition: A Bloggers Celebration! got twenty five (25) official valid entries. The competition has found a new group of writers who were able to stylistically and creatively expressed themselves via the theme: Blog to the World; Blog for You and Me . They all have labored on the tedious tasks of following the contest rules and came up with such beautiful and interesting contest pieces. I commend the high level of quality work that each and every contestant has put in to this competition and I thank you for choosing to join. What contestants should take to heart is that we, the credible judges and the readers, altogether aim at recognizing and rewarding literary merit.

Today the poll for the Readers Choice shall commence. Prior to the poll’s kick off, the contestants were encouraged to submit their Acceptance Statements to abide by and comply with the contest rules. The poll is a very legitimate one where all votes cast for the contestants shall be counted in their names; presenting an across the board appreciation of each contestant’s entry for the Readers Poll.

Contest Announcement

The deadline for the submission of contest entries for:

Lainy’s Hottest Blogoversary Writing Competition: A Bloggers Celebration!

is approaching its closing date. This competition certainly has brought out the best in each contestant! Setting their best foot forward in narrating their own blogging experiences has become a source of inspiration and motivation not only for me but to a lot more bloggers out there! You all are winners in your own right!

As of March 31, we’ve got 25 beautifully and creatively written contest pieces. Twenty three females and 2 male-bloggers respectively shall be competing to become Hall of Famers in the field of storytelling.

However, I have received requests for an extension of the closing date as some bloggers have been unable to meet the deadline due to extenuating circumstances. Therefore, in the interest of these bloggers, I deemed it best to extend the closing date for entries by another seven (7) more days.

Therefore, the deadline for the submission of contest entries shall be on April 7, 2009 Midnight Central Time.

This I hope is a fair response to the requests made as well as afford more time for others who are interested to join. You just need to follow the contest rules from your word GO!

Bloggers taking part in this competition are coming from far and wide- The Netherlands, United States and the Philippines. I am expecting to have one from Cameroon, Africa and more entries from the U.S, too. Participants range from the working class to work-at-home moms; physician, a computer programmer and a call center agent. They all have one thing in common and that’s blogging! So there is no excuse! If you have a blog, we definitely would want to hear from you!

Contest Updates and More!

As of this writing, there’s only 4 days, 18 hours, 32 minutes and 12 seconds remaining until the end of acceptance of entries for the Lainy’s Hottest Blogoversary Writing Competition: A Bloggers Celebration! I must admit I had a great time reading the first 23 submitted entries. Such interesting and awesome reads! I got amazed how bloggers can be so creative while at the same time inspiring bloggers through their own blogging tale. It is such a pity though I won’t have a say in judging the entries submitted.

As you all know, the competition shall be composed of 3 credible judges who shall make up 50% of the contest results. Too many people have been actually asking me bluntly for the judges’ identities. I sincerely understand your curiosity and anxiety concerning the identities of those who will be deciding your fate as far as this contest is concerned. If I were in your shoes, I won’t be different. However, I hope you do understand that for a clean, fair and transparent judgment, the judges don’t have to be influenced in anyway. You must be assured that none of your competitors are mailing them and asking for favors or proposing bribes. On my part, I have done my best to make sure that the judges were carefully selected and I can truly vouch for their capabilities. They won’t be passing on their judgment while blindfolded because they may or may not know the blogger behind each entry they are judging. As a result, I made sure I picked up people who are good in writing and have a mastery of the English Language, and above all, very objective but not so emotional.

If the judges are one of the reasons that’s pulling you back from joining this competition, let me give you confidence by saying we have the best around here! That being said, I am sticking to the contest rules. The judges shall remain anonymous until such time the winners are declared. This is to give no shadow of doubts to the competition results.

As I have previously written, conceptualizing a competition of this magnitude is not a walk in the park. I wanted this to be something different from the usual contests. I made sure this contest will be worth the sponsors’ pledges. This certainly is not your “copy-paste” thing. This time, I won’t be going by the numbers but rather of the quality and effort that participants will be putting in.

I must confess, with the contest rules, I thought that bloggers were fighting shy to write stuffs.

I said to myself:

“It really doesn’t make sense at all! Why would people shy away from joining? That’s what bloggers do- WRITE stuffs! “

But the 23 official valid entries proved me wrong! Bloggers can be amazingly creative! And I know there are still too many of you there! Rest assured your efforts won’t be for naught.

The Eye is the Window of the Soul…

I am certain most of you are familiar with the adage:

The eye is the window of the soul; the mouth;
the door; the intellect; the WILL are seen in the eyes!

I realize how important our eyes are. It gives us the opportunity to see the beauty of life and everything that God has in store for us. But it is such a pity! I have been suffering from severe myopia since I was 15 years old. I am a complete invalid without my contact lenses or my eyeglasses. I have been advised by my ophthalmologist a few years back to undergo laser surgery for me to get rid of the hassle of wearing both contacts and glasses but I only laughed it off! Where would I get the huge amount of money? It would take me a whole lifetime to be able to save that amount! So I entirely forgot about the surgery.

I had my annual eye consultation today. The good news? No increase in eye grade; still stands at 1000 on both eyes. The bad news… I was over refracted. Meaning, the eyeglasses that I am currently wearing is way above the normal grade that I am supposed to have. But that’s OK, the doctor says so. The only important thing to take note is to change my contact lenses every after six (6) months and not one year since I am living in a very dusty community.

The doctor had my eyes dilated. He actually hesitated at first because there was no one with me. I surely will have a difficult time going home. But I insisted. I told him I can manage going home all by myself. So he proceeded with the over-all check up.

Everything was on a blur after that. I can hardly see and I had a difficult time going home and coming online. My Prince decided to call it an off night despite my complaints. I hated it when I couldn’t spend my time with him! Long distance relationship is killing me! But he lifted my spirit up when he called on the phone instead and told me not to worry so much because we have a whole lifetime ahead of us. Isn’t he such a sweetie?

Going back to the results of the check up, the doctor told me that the problem with having such a very high eye grade like mine is that it creates some sort of stretch marks on my eyes. Apparently, there is a need to monitor my eye condition every now and then. If symptoms like flashing occurs even when my eyes are closed, there is a need to see a doctor right away. If problems won’t be detected at a very early stage, the stretch marks will result to a hole! Oh sweet heavenly! I don’t want that happening to me and to anyone for that matter. So we better take good care of our own eyes before it’s too late.

Anyhow, I would like to make a quick update on the Lainy’s Blogoversary Writing Competition: A Bloggers Celebration! Six (6) official valid entries were able to make it for the first week since the competition’s kick off. They are the following:

We are awaiting more submissions with still 10 days, 1 hour, 48 minutes and 56 seconds remaining (as of this writing) until the end of acceptance of entries. I hope I haven’t scared away all potential participants with that rather long contest post, LOL! There was no intention to scare you off. This contest was meant only for fun and I hope you guys will find it that way when you share your inspiring blogging tale to the world. A contest entry is truly appreciated especially if one’s HEART is on it. I know most of you are all up for the challenge.

My Daily Routine

Going to the mall and going out with friends whenever I feel like it are only two of the few things that I have missed doing for quite some time now. I miss those times when I just can be with friends and have fun, eat out for lunch or have dinner at some cozy restos while doing all those girl talks and more. My daily and usual routine revolves around work for eight long hours, keeping in touch with my Prince everyday without fail (except for Thursdays since it’s our Midweek Worship Service and time constraints would prohibit us both from meeting online), church, and blogging. I have been used to this routine of mine since I have discovered bliss from blogging. Some may find this daily activities boring but mind you, I find this all fun and invigorating!

Well, I can not say for how long will I be having fun from what I have used to doing for two long years but suffice it to say that I am making the most out of these things for the time being. I am all passionate about these things and it makes me feel renewed and fulfilled. Some might find me a dull girl but hey! It’s my life and I can do anything with it. Just be happy for me, Ok?

For months now, I haven’t been to the mall. You might be shocked to know that going to the mall today is in my itinerary to purchase disposable gloves. You ask me for what purpose

To celebrate the first anniversary of Lainy’s Musings, I wish that you would share together with me, my joy for having been able to consistently blog this far. My blogging journey has been topsy-turvy given the initial frustration and difficulty to understand Blog’s technical issues. However, in comparison, all that dissipates due to the inspiration and fillip that blogging has introduced to my life… as a blogger and my identity.

I have become passionate about blogging. Besides exercising this passion to its fullest, I was motivated to emulate others. I hope to establish a Blog that conveys quality. Hence, it is my desire to mark the first anniversary of Lainy’s Musings!

4. The contest officially begins today, March 15, 2009 until March 31, 2009.
5. Readers’ polling shall officially start April 1 until April 25, 2009.
6. Great care and thought has been given towards making the judging scores unbiased. Therefore, the final result will be deemed irrevocable.
7. The result of the Winners will be deemed final on my Blog’s birthday – April 26, 2009, Winners shall be declared within a week following April 26.

II. THE THEME AND CONTENT for the Contestant’s entry:

The story must be original.
Imaginary or real, it must have a good plot.
It must be interesting enough for there to even be a SEQUEL to the first story told.
It must be written in good grammatical English, with a small allowance for English jargon, for conversation quotes or description.
This being a Blog contest, it should be enhanced with animated images, photographs, banners, gravatar, and animated gif 125 x 125px or even point to other links for added support.
Presentation method – the more creative, the higher the score!
There are no minimum words. Therefore it relies on the Contestant’s ability to make the story readable, well written, so that it would make everyone sit up and notice the writer’s creativity and style. Make the content count!
The THEME to be used for the Contestant’s entry:
“Blog to the world; Blog for you and me”

III. JUDGING CRITERIA

A panel of judges selected and approved by yours truly.
The final score is not dependent solely on the panel of judges. Judges scores will account for 50% of the total score.
The Anonymous Panel of Judges will judge the contest entries based on the following criteria summarized below:
3.1 Writing style and composition, which will include writing correctness such as grammar, spelling and punctuations (25%).
3.2 Subject matter, originality, organization of thoughts, expression and length (25%).
3.3 The remaining 50% will come from the reader’s appreciation via a Poll.
3.4 The Contestants can publish a campaign post at their respective blogs to seek for poll support from their readers.
3.5 A reader’s poll will be on display for readers to submit their rating.

A Storyteller is NOT allowed to judge his or other Contestants submission. Any Contestant breaching this rule will be DISQUALIFIED.
The final score will be the combined weighted scores from the Judges and the Pollsters.
The Winner/ s will be in accordance to the result of Item 5.

IV. THE SPECIAL AWARDS

Two Special Shield awards will be given. One Shield to the Best Storyteller and the other Shield is the Reader’s Choice Award.

The Best Storyteller is given to the Contestant who has gained the highest weighted average score from the judges.

The Reader’s Choice is the Contestant who has gained the highest poll from the readers.

These Shields will be displayed at the Storyteller’s Hall of Fame.

Last but not least, there is one more special award shall be given to which everyone has a chance. This will be for LUCKY Contestant. This Award is given to the Contestant from a Draw. The Draw will be conducted under the auspice of http://www.ramdom.org/.
